Trusted Data Sources

Last updated: March 11, 2026

Overview

Trusted Sources is a domain filtering feature that allows organizations to control which external data sources Alfa can access for web search, web scraping, and news retrieval. Instead of allowing unrestricted internet access, administrators can configure Alfa to only use a curated list of approved domains, ensuring data integrity and compliance with organizational policies. Watch the walkthrough video in the Notion page for a full demo.

Source Types

Alfa supports several data source types. Three of them (Web Search, News, and Web Scraping) are subject to Trusted Sources filtering. The remaining types (Regulatory Filings, Earnings Reports, Street Account News, and Corporate Events) use their own internal data sources and are not affected by domain filtering, but can still be turned on or off.

Source Modes

For Web Search, News, and Web Scraping, each source can be set to one of three modes:

  1. On (All): No domain restrictions. Alfa can access any domain.

  2. On (Trusted): Limited to your organization's approved domain list only.

  3. Off: The source type is completely disabled.

For all other source types (Regulatory Filings, Earnings Reports, etc.), the only options are On or Off.

Approved Source List

When a source is set to On (Trusted), Alfa will only retrieve content from domains on your approved source list.

To view the approved source list:

  1. Navigate to Workspace Settings.

  2. Click Data Sources.

  3. Select Approved Source List.

The list is organized into tabs by category: Web Search, News, and Web Scraping. Adding a domain automatically includes all of its subdomains.

Organization & Workspace Restrictions

Trusted Sources uses a hierarchical permission model. Settings at a higher level override those below it.

  1. Organization is the highest level and sets the broadest restrictions.

  2. Workspace settings apply within the bounds set by the organization.

  3. User settings apply within the bounds set by the workspace.

If your organization sets a source to On (Trusted), workspaces and users cannot set it to On (All). If a workspace disables a source entirely, users cannot re-enable it. When a restriction is applied from above, users will see a Disabled label with a tooltip indicating whether it was restricted by the organization or workspace.
