Start a Chat with Alfa

Last updated: February 20, 2026

Starting a new chat in Alfa is the quickest way to begin researching a company, market theme, or investment question. If you are new to the platform, this is the best place to get started.

To start a new chat from the Home page:

  1. Navigate to the Home tab on the left sidebar

  2. Enter your query into the textbox

  3. Hit enter or click the ‘Send Message’ icon. You have just initiated your first chat!

You are also able to start a new chat from the Chats page by hitting the New Chat button.

Once you submit your query, Alfa will generate an in-chat output using your selected sources and any referenced watchlists or tools. From there, you can continue the conversation, ask follow-ups, or choose one of the platform's suggestions to dive deeper.

Modifying your chat

When starting a new chat, you are able to:

  • Select specific sources you want Alfa to use for your query

  • Reference securities, other agents, variables, and other items in the chat

  • Get suggestions for your prompt as you type

  • Access a prompt library for pre-built queries organized by use case

Selecting Your Sources

Inside the chat box, you’ll find a Sources dropdown. This lets you choose which sources Alfa should use when generating your response.

This is useful when you want Alfa to focus on specific data sources most useful for your query.

For example:

  • Limit to news only when tracking recent developments or catalysts

  • Toggle off web search to focus on official disclosures only

Referencing Securities, Agents, and More

Click the (Plus) + icon in the chat box to reference securities, other agents, variables, or watchlists in your prompt. You can also reference these quickly by typing (ampersand) @ and selecting the security, variable, watchlist, among other items you want to include in your prompt.
